nullLegend says that Captain Cook felt that this island off the coast of Australia had magnetic powers which were steering his compass wrong, hence the name ‘Magnetic Island’.

Geography:

Magnetic Island is an island on the North Queensland Coast. It has about 23 beaches and bays with golden sand and is fast becoming a very popular tourist destination. Over two-thirds of the island is a protected National Park.

Flora and Fauna:

The natural park is home to the native wildlife like rock wallabies, large colonies of koala bears, possums and more than 100 species of birdlife. Tropical vegetation dominates the plant scene.

Tourist activities:

Besides the wildlife, this island is a blessing for water-sports enthusiasts who can swim, snorkel and scuba-dive to their hearts’ content. Also there is plenty of open water for kayaking, sailing and motor boating. The island offers a variety of holiday resorts.
