It is, essentially the lifeline of the rainforest, as it matriculates through thousands of acres of vegetation. This vegetation provides at least 20% of our oxygen, by recycling its carbon dioxide (from plants) into breathable oxygen.

The river, itself, starts in the Andes of Peru and continues through 7 countries; Columbia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela, the 3 Guyana’s before it reaches the mouth of the Atlantic Ocean in Belem, Brazil. In fact, the drainage basin is 2,722,000 million square miles. 16% of all the worlds’ waterways flow through the Amazon delta. It receives approximately 9 feet of rain per year and 28 billion gallon of water flow out of it, into the ocean, every minute.
The rainforest is the home of the highest level biodiversity and there are species that exists here that few people have ever encountered.

Situated in Argentina and Chile, it contains the southernmost portion of the Andes range, and a plateau to its east.

The Argentinean portion of the lakes region includes the provinces of Neuquén, Río Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz, and Tierra del Fuego, along with the southern tips of the provinces of Buenos Aires, Mendoza and La Pampa.

The Chilean portion of it consists of the southern part of the region of Los Lagos, and the regions of Aisén and Magallanes.

The climate is less severe than it used to be. The east slope has a warmer climate than the west, especially in summer, owing to a branch of southern equatorial current reaching its shores, in contrast with the west coast which is greeted by a cold current.

This area boasts of a large amount of wildlife species and an equally impressive amount of bird-life. Some of the famous animals found here are the guanaco, the cougar, the rhea etc. and birds include carrion-hawk, parakeets, humming birds etc.
